virus???i just finished re-installing my C: drive after 3 days of constant BSODs...
i tried scanning my drives but everytime PC-cillin ran, i got another BSOD... it all started when i visited phpBB.biz; note the .biz out of sheer curiosity and my browser just went beserk (with a barrage of pop-ups like i've never seen before ).i am too afraid to go back there, but anyone brave enough (and with an up-to-date pattern file), visit the site and wait till the page loads completely. if the pop-ups are still there, let me know if it's a virus? __________________

Norton is the worst! McAfee is the best!
Anyways go to www.trendmicro.com and use their online virus scan. Remember if you think you have a virus you probably do and the first thing they do is shut down your virus scanner, it may appear to be running but it's usually not. I did a fresh install and battled viruses for 2 weeks thinking it was hardware and my Mcafee seemed to be running but it wasn't. Trendmicro found some viruses, cleaned them then McAfee started working again and found more.Realize too, I got these viruses just by plugging into the internet with my cable modem! Dave |

OK, OK, enough with the McAfee vs. Norton vs. PCcillin...
You guys are giving the contextual advertising providers below a hard time! They're tripping over themselves wondering which brand to insert in the advertisement below. __________________

lol JdS. It does sound like you picked something up. Try running a trojan scan from any scanner at cnet.com.
My friend has similar problems, but all of the popups were from adult web sites, wasn't too great since he has children who uses the computer. __________________

No, it wasn't a virus after all .... My machine was over-heating, that's all... I was simply STUPID then, not SO bright now.

IMO overheating (not just CPU but also the chipset) is the most common reason behind BSoDs and freeze ups.
ps - if you're ever wondering whether you've picked up something icky while surfing, I recommend BHODemon to see what parasites might be residing. |
