Weird to find my site benig talked about!
I did have problems getting the login "global" ie. across the two domains, but I got there in the end, you just hve to set two cookies on login, and then remember to use the same variable names on the other domain (thats why it showed you as logged in even when you werent... was my mistake)... Hope you got there in the end. |

Hello Ember,
Nothing weird discussing your websites at all, it's there, I suspect, for anyone to find ![]() Anyway, this 'idea' is fine if one was using Microsoft's Internet Explorer but it fails miserably when you use Mozilla / Firebird on Linux e.g. In a nutshell, this is browser-dependant. Will have to look at other solutions... __________________

Why not just set two independant cookies? That way you wont have any problems, well, shouldnt... It all depends on the security level on the browser.

I don't know if you have read the entire thread here, but I was planning for 'members' to be logged into a network of sites simply by logging in at the 'main' site. For now I think, this idea is impossible....
So once the sites are ready, members will have to register only once but will have to log in at each separate website with the same username / password. __________________

I just skimmed over the thread, sorry.
I cant think of a way to give authority to set the cookies, unless you PHP headers to forward the users invisibly to the other domains, have a script logging them in on each one, then forwarding them back to the main site the registered on... kinda of a pain in the *** way of doing it though. But at least the users wouldnt (shouldnt) notice it going on. |

Have you seen moonfruit.com they have a system like this. If you log on as a member in two or more sites run by moonfriut you auomatically login to aLL SITES on your list of favourite sites. I do not know how they do this or if it works on all browsers but my guess is this when one site reads cookie it sends info to central site . you are now logged into all sites on your cookie list regardless of USERNAME or password for each site to check it out go to main page and click on menu at top of page, SITES will give you list of sites, join any two sites as a memmber and see what happens ( be prepared for some dodgey FLASH pages) hope this is what you are looking for J Last edited by JUNK KED : 22-Dec-2003 at 04:12.

I am currently reading up on Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) in my spare time. When I am done testing what I learned, I will update this thread.
