win32 file opening and running other programs

Two quick questions

1.How do you tell CreateFile() or the other win32 API file functions to write or read in binary insted of chars?

2.Otherwise how do you run one program from another (i want this because i will just create a console mode converter program and then tell it to run on the file) and pass values to the called program (like command line params)?

I don't know about the windows api file binary thing but to open another process you can use the windows api function CreateProcess().. it is documented pretty well in the MSDN so that hopefully can tell you everything you need to know.. if you have trouble using it give this thread an update.
