Power FailureHi,
My grandmother needs some help with her computer. We had a bad storm last night and today her computer won't cut on. She had the computer off during the storm and plugged into a surge protector. Everything else plugged into the Surge Protector is still receiving power. What should I bring with me to check to see the problem? Power cable for computer, a new power supply, etc? |

Re: Power FailureIt's possible that a small spike went through the surge strip before it cut clamp down on it. The strip could theoritically still work if it wasn't damaged too much but it could have zapped your computer.
However, I'd try plugging it into a different socket, then a different power cable, then a power supply (even a cheap one will tell you if it's the system or not). __________________

Re: Power FailureYou can't count on a surge protector to protect your computer from lighting. Compared to the gap between the clouds and the ground, the little gap inside a surge protector is nothing.
