Photo Gallery Comments

Hey there

Well I recently created a website for myself about random things, and I have also added a photo gallery... Now all of the people who go to my website were asking me to add that feature that they have on those 'friends networks' like Bebo, Hi5 or Friendster where you can leave a comment about a photo.. I was wondering if anyone knew how to do that??

Any help would be good, but please keep in mind Im not that good with all the scripting stuff etc.. I just draw hehe So yea

Even if you are "not that good with all the scripting stuff etc", you will still need to figure it out to get this feature done for your web site.

You really don't want to allow anonymous comments. So you will have to either build a membership feature, where members register and login to post or at the very least, a capcha (verification) image to discourage the bots from spamming your comments with their "offers".

Even if you get all these done, and get the comments feature set up nicely, you will need to decide how to display their comments. What if they want to post words in bold, in italics, or even include a or a url? You will need to write the code to parse bbcodes, a lot like how they work on forums.

For my photo gallery script, I have been working on such a feature; I have been working on it since June 5th and I am still just working on the bbcode script! But that is already 80% of the work. Once the bbcode script is complete, getting the "comments" feature done on the web site will be very fast.

Re: Photo Gallery Comments

Well my webserver had some feature called "Fantastico" so I checked it out.. It had a Gallery called Coppermine - Quite easy to use and set up really... Well easy to set up as all I done was enter my username and password and voila everything was done for me The look I wish I could change, but hey who can complain when I got what I wanted

http://coppermine-gallery.net/index.php

It's a web picture gallery script written in PHP... The Coopermine Gallery is really easy to use, it is set up like a forum really. It allows guests to view the photo's but wont allow them to place comments or anything - For that you'd have to register (Which is what you suggested)

Admin controls are really quite easy to use (Even though there are a few bugs at times)
You can "Batch add files" using FTP transfers etc... Few bugs in that, but Googling for help will do the trick...

All and all it's a really good thing I came across it, really simple to use - especially for n00bs like me

I can't get to your web site. On my other site, that we won't mention here, your homepage link is no longer valid.
