Is this possibleI'm making a website for a friends band and i was wandering if the following is possible : -
My site ATM looks thusly http://projecty.5dollar.org/bozaar/Messiah-Page.png and i was wandering if it was somehow possible to embed a browser window in that big bit of empty space on the menu and use it as a frame so that all the links on the side will load their pages into it. I remember seeing it done before but i can't remember where or how they did it. Help is much appreciated and the wuicker the better because i am running on a deadline. :-) So thanx to everyone in advance |

Hello looneytherat,
I am not getting the image you linked to from here (in your post), perhaps you have solved the problem already? __________________

Oops. i'll have to upload the picture again, i'll do it when i get home.
on a related note, is there anyway to make layers dynamic so that they don't stay in the same spot when you resize the browser window? I'm using Dreamweaver MX. Ta again |

ok, this is my site so far (the red isn't going to be there): -
http://projecty.5dollar.org/Messiah Page copy.jpg The red bit is where i want all my information to be displayed and where all my links will load, hence the treating as a frame. |

I believe you want to use an iFrame. http://mrbobdouglas.com/dev/ shows a good example of using iFrames.
Here is the code for it: Code:

thanx, that's the kinda thing that i need but the only way that i can put it over my picture (in the highlited red part) is to put into a layer and then i have the problem of the layer not staying in the hilighted red part when i resize the window so if you have any info on that it would be very much appreciated.
Thanx again. |

Possible solution: use inline frames aka iframesLike Bobby has already mentioned, your best bet would be to do this with iframes. I don't understand your comment about 'layers' not staying in place on window re-size...
What about Server side includes (aka SSI) or simply including whole chunks of html with server-side scripts? Perhaps if you have some code that you have been working on, we might be able to understand this issue better. By the way, using frames is generally a bad idea if you care about search engine traffic and don't know much about working around the limitations they present to Search Engine bots. __________________

first of all, i apologize for not replying sooner.
I create all my webpages in dreamweaver using WYSISYG and only write script when doing targets for links and the like so i have no idea what a SSI is or what a Server Side Script is. The following link is another method that i think will work, using frames to create a box in the middle of the window that everything can load into. projecty.5dollar.org Only, notice that when the browser window gets resized, the images in the bottom and the right frame expand and the whole thing looks stupid, this is what i am trying to get rid of. Thanx for being patient with me. :-D |

Ew, dont use frames like that!
Just make an iframe where you want your content to appear. If you need help, do this: Make your template how you want it to look on ONE page. Meaning, combine all of your frames, and add content to the place where you would like things to appear. Once you do that, insert the iframe code in place of the content you have, but be sure still be inside the same td as to where the content is. If you dont understand, then redo everything not using frames, send me the code, and I will show you. |
