I've looked into learning PHP, but looking at source code makes me nervous...it looks like a really hard language to learn. So is it really that hard? Or did you guys manage to pick it up quickly?

I don't know if PHP is easy to learn, but it was the easiest of all the languages I attempted to learn.

A good book will help you understand the concepts and keep you motivated to figure it out eventually. I guess the book I bought on Java and C++ were not very good for my simple brain.

It's actually quite easy to pick up. About the only easier, IME, is Ruby or Python (and probably other interpreted languages).

As you gain coding experience, you'll realize PHP is "nice" because you don't have to worry about a large variety of types; PHP just takes the biggest/best from the C language and uses them (for example, floating point numbers have only one type, 'double', so you don't have to decide if a number will exceed the bounds of your variable.)
