SoBig Virus watch out 4 Re: Details Re: Approved and Thank you e-mails & attachments

I meant to report this earlier.
Here's some exerpts from here:

Quote:
A new computer virus feared to be the most potent ever spread like wildfire on Thursday, sending e-mail networks crashing and frazzling technicians already overstretched by a plague of computer bugs.

Quote:
Once the file is opened, SoBig, which first appeared on Monday, scours the computer for e-mail addresses, checking in Word documents, Internet logs and e-mail inboxes.

Symantec have been very helpful with it with a fix and good description.

Here's the overview of what to look out for: here

If you have a virus scanner, make sure you download the latest definitions.

Here's the removal tool instructions

FBI has clues on Sobig.F origins

Found here:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=18
Quote:
The FBI subpoenaed an Arizona Internet service provider to trace the culprit behind a fast-spreading e-mail virus that security experts said may have first been posted to an adult pictures Internet site. One expert said the Sobig.F e-mail virus was disguised so that anyone who clicked on a link purporting to show a sexually graphic picture became infected with the self-replicating worm, which then spread itself to other e-mail addresses.

These fast moving viruses target the most stupid people on earth...ogling men and women.

Apparently the virus was going to download information from 20 servers to pass on the next part of the virus explained here, but security experts seem to have dodged the bullet on this one:

Sobig.F has broken the all-time speed records so far:

Make sure you know the file type before you click on things!
